The Ford Bronco is set to make its much-anticipated return after a 24-year hiatus. The Bronco need’s no introduction, but we are going to give it one anyway. The legendary SUV enjoyed great success from 1966 to 1996. The Bronco was once known as the “off road king”, and is here to take back that title from competition such as the Jeep Wrangler.  In this blog, we will take a closer look at what we know so far about the 2020 Ford Bronco and how it matches up head-to-head against the 2020 Jeep Wrangler. Let’s dive right in to this off-road grudge match.

Under the Hood

We will start this comparison by taking a look under the hood of these off-road SUVs to see what each brings to the table in the powertrain department.

Ford has yet to release much of the information about the Bronco, but here is what we know so far about the powertrain. We know that the SUV will share a platform with the next-generation 2021 Ford Ranger. The Bronco will get the turbocharged 2.3-liter four-cylinder engine from the current Ford Ranger, but it may also be available with a new turbocharged V-6. The 2.3L engine currently produces 270 horsepower and 310 lb-ft of torque. The rumored V-6 engine may be paired with a 7-speed manual transmission. Ford has confirmed that the Bronco will be available in a hybrid powertrain as well.

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler is expected to give buyers three engine options to choose from. The 3.6-liter V-6 engine is standard across the 2020 Wrangler lineup. The next option is a 2.0-liter four-cylinder that is available on most models and can be supplemented with e torque assist on the Sahara trim. The third engine option is the expected mid-year arrival of a 3.0-liter V-6 EcoDiesel. This engine is expected to deliver 260 horsepower and 442 lb-ft of torque and will only be available on the Unlimited models.

Exterior Design & Styling

Next up, we will take a look at the exterior design and styling of these off-road SUVs. Looks count for a lot when people are choosing their next vehicle. For buyers interested in the Bronco and Wrangler, it is safe to assume that most will be looking for a rugged design style that can handle the off-road adventures they are envisioning.

From what we know so far, the 2020 Ford Bronco will stay true to its roots with a box-like shape and retro styling. The Bronco will be available with trail-ready equipment, and two or four removable doors. The 2020 Bronco will also be available with a removable roof to compete directly with the Jeep Wrangler.

The 2020 Jeep Wrangler appearance remains similar to the Wranglers of the past. The well-known boxy shape and grille that almost anyone can immediately identify a Wrangler from. Much like previous models, the 2020 Wrangler will be available with two or four removable doors, and the removable roof that Jeep’s are known for.

Which SUV Wins?

With so many 2020 Ford Bronco details still unknown, it is hard to pick a winner in this head-to-head matchup. The 2020 Ford Bronco and 2020 Jeep Wrangler are both excellent off-road SUV options with a lot to be excited about. When there is more information released about the 2020 Bronco, we will be updating this blog and a winner will be crowned.

Here at Muzi Ford, we are very excited for the upcoming arrival of the 2020 Ford Bronco. We believe that this American icon is ready to compete with the legendary Jeep Wrangler.
